Volunteer Attorney Program
Are you a licensed attorney who wants to help low income immigrants and refugees?
Pathways to Citizenship is looking for licensed volunteer attorneys to help our legal representatives represent qualified immigrant and refugee clients. No immigration law training or experience is necessary. Pathways trains and mentors volunteer attorneys as they work with Pathways to bring hope and opportunity to hard-working immigrant families.
The Process
1. Apply
Start by submitting your application through our website or contacting our volunteer coordinator.
2. Hands-on learning
Once your application is reviewed and accepted, our legal staff will contact you for a shadowing experience to orient you. You will learn about our organization’s mission, values, and the specific responsibilities of a volunteer attorney. We do not require you to know everything about Immigration law, just that you come ready to learn and ask questions! We have plenty of shadowing opportunities to introduce you to Immigration and prepare you to take on client representation!
3. Mentorship
Engage in a mentorship program where experienced legal representatives guide you through the nuances of immigration law and the unique legal challenges faced by immigrants and refugees. Additionally, as you become comfortable in the vast world of immigration law, we encourage you to mentor new law students and volunteer attorneys. Pathways works as a team; our mission is to support our community!

What we are looking for:
1. Client Representation:
We are looking for support, attending USCIS interviews and ICE check-ins. Additionally, we look to our volunteer attorneys to prep clients during a mock interview, so that everyone knows what to expect before attending an interview.
2. Screenings and Consultations:
Volunteer attorneys support our legal staff by conducting consultations with clients in both affirmative and defensive cases. Attorneys have the ability to draft legal forms for an immigration benefit under the supervision of our legal staff.
3. Motion work:
We are looking for attorneys who can draft and submit motion work under the supervision of our legal staff and adhere to the organization’s templates.
4. Legal Research:
The immigration landscape is a consistently changing landscape; for this reason, we rely on the support of volunteer attorneys to research how to abide by new legal systems and rules.
