Clerkship Program
Pathways to Citizenship invites dedicated and driven law students to apply for our rewarding clerkship program. This is a chance to witness the intricacies of immigration law, advocate for vulnerable populations, and learn about the cultural and legal challenges an immigrant must navigate to succeed in America.

Clerkship Program
Pathways to Citizenship is a small organization made up of only 5 staff members! Because of this reason, we rely on the support of volunteers giving their time to help! Our legal team deals with defensive and affirmative caseloads; for this reason, we offer our clerkship program to active law students. Law students are eligible to serve as legal representatives under a supervising attorney. We take on law students who are interested in pursuing immigration in the future, and train them to represent clients in the EOIR court and at USCIS interviews. Additionally, we offer law students the opportunity to help draft cases, sit in consults, take notes, write motions, provide legal research, etc.
The Process
We run on a semester system for Summer, Fall, and Spring. We welcome current law students to apply through our website. We will review applications and schedule an initial phone call interview, and we will evaluate your initial interview with your application before considering applicants for an in-person interview.
What we are looking for…
1. Educational Background: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school with a strong academic record. Please notify the Volunteer Programs Manager if you are looking to use our organization for school credit or a school-funded stipend.
2. Interest and Passion: Applicants must demonstrate interest in immigration law, social justice, and commitment to our organization’s mission. We want people who care about this cause as much as we do!
3. Communication and attention to detail: Applicants must have strong verbal and written communication skills, since they will be working with clients and legal documents. Every detail of a client’s history has the ability to weigh heavily on their case. It is important to handle their legal documents with the utmost care.
4. Teamwork and Collaboration: Applicants must have the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and interact with clients from different backgrounds. Additionally, it is important that you are able to work as a team to accomplish projects and tasks that are assigned.
5. Adaptability: Nonprofit work is fast-paced. We have multiple projects happening at once, always. Add to the constantly evolving immigration landscape, and it can be overwhelming! A clerk must be able to switch gears from case to case to succeed.

Requirements:
1. Currently attending an accredited law school.
2. Have at least 25 hours minimum of availability during the school year and 30 hours minimum of availability during summer.
3. Have an interest in pursing Immigration law.
