NCICC’s Case Manager Uses Experience and Passion to Help Others

Born in Puebla Mexico, Pedro came to the U.S. when he was just nine years old. Growing up in the San Diego area, he encountered and overcame his own struggles as an immigrant, which contributes to his passion for his work at NCICC and helping others in their journey towards citizenship. Pedro is NCICC’s Case Manager, but his role cannot be simply defined. In the past five years, Pedro has worn many hats. He currently maintains several different roles overseeing the office, teaching drivers ed classes, helping out with the provision of legal services to clients and taking care of the organization’s finances.

In undergrad, Pedro studied Business Administration and social science, and in graduate school he studied to become a therapist, eventually earning his Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. At NCICC Pedro uses these skills on a daily basis. Pedro’s favorite part about working with NCICC is building relationships with clients. He loves meeting new people and hearing their stories. Speaking of NCICC’s clients Pedro says, “I think we all have stories. You have your own story and your experiences shape you. You can’t change the past, but you can learn from the past, and you can learn to live in the present. You have control over your thoughts and emotions. You have the autonomy to choose how you will live and how you want to change and where you want to go. The past is already written, it’s how you choose to write your story from now on that matters.” Pedro’s words are an inspiration. We are so thankful to have him on staff here at NCICC.
