Meet Marti!

Marti first learned of NCICC through her chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization that, among other things, is a proponent of immigration services. As a former 8th grade history teacher, Marti was a natural fit for tutoring the civics curriculum at NCICC. Her knowledge combined with her passion for helping others learn have made lasting impressions on those who get the opportunity to work with her. On one occasion, one of her students brought in a flower for her and told her how much she meant to them. Heartwarming moments like these remind Marti of the important role she plays in the lives of her students.

A dedicated volunteer for over a year now, Marti tutors students who are taking their citizenship exam in English and helps to teach the ESL class on Thursday night. Her favorite thing about tutoring is seeing her students’ progress, and knowing that she’s making a difference.

“It’s so rewarding to see these people coming back again,” says Marti. “It’s inspiring to see people who want something so much and are willing to work so hard for it.”

To Marti, NCICC is about loving people and helping them to achieve the goal of becoming American citizens.
